Sandra's
Team In Training Page

On January 12, 2003 I walked 26.2 miles at The Walt Disney World Marathon, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training.
I raised $4,216.00 for leukemia research and patient assistance programs.
I would like to thank all those who helped my reach my goal. I could not have done it with out you!

I trained for five months for this marathon and the week before the marathon my grandfather, Thomas Elliott was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. I could not believe that someone in my family was diagnosed with one of the disease's that I was working so hard to raise money for. I'm pleased to say that he is responding very well to the chemotherapy.

I am now more dedicated than ever to continue working with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training.
On May 4th, I will run 13 miles at the Long Island Half Marathon. My goal is to raise $2000 for the Leukemia Society.

Some think Im crazy getting up at 6:30am on the weekend and driving half an hour to meet my team to train.
I do this because I can.
I do this to help find a cure.
Never mind how sore I get, how tired I get, how many days I have to train in the cold or rain, I think of those, like my grandfather who are fighting for their lives.
What I have to do is easy!

SOME FACTS:
* Leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma will strike approximately 110,000 Americans this year and 60,000 will die!
* Every week there are 2000 new cases of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma diagnosed in this country!
* The research is working! 35 years ago, only 5% of children diagnosed with leukemia survived. Today, 80% of children with leukemia and 76% of those with Hodgkin’s disease will live thanks to research funded by Team in Training and other projects!
* Over 75% of the money raised by the Society goes back into research or patient aid!
